SYRIZA: The government is trying to cover up the ID competition fiasco with patents

The secretary of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, Olga Gerovasilis and the head of the Digital Governance sector, Marios, speak in their joint statement about the “fiasco of the 515 million euro tender for the new identities that the Government is trying to cover with ‘patents'” Sitting.

“New Democracy is celebrating another fiasco.. with a government fiesta!”, they state in their statement and explain: “After a nightly amendment, the existing, insecure IDs and mobile driving licenses are being launched today, as other vaccination certificates”.

Next they ask:

– What about the €515 million tender for the new secure IDs, passports and security documents that the ND canceled just a week after the 2019 elections and re-announced, in photographic terms, driving up costs?

– Three years later, there is not even a contractor, while, according to European Regulation (EU) 2019/1157, the new secure ID cards should be issued as early as 2021. The country is already exposed to sanctions.

– With a provision in yesterday’s bill for the Police Academy, the validity of passports is extended from 5 to 10 years. To whom and by what process was the contract for the passports awarded, until there is a contractor?

– If the new mobile IDs are in line with international security standards, then why can’t they be used as a travel document, as the Minister of Digital Governance admitted in Parliament?

– And in the meantime, if the new identities are in line with international security standards, then why is there an “unnecessary” tender for security documents, amounting to 515 million Euros?
