“Immaculate” revolves around the young American nun Sister Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who enrolls in a convent in rural Italy. As she struggles to understand what seems strange about the establishment, she suddenly finds herself pregnant, without explanation.
Cecília becomes tormented by perverse forces as she confronts the convent's dark secrets and horrors. The religious experience is about to turn into a nightmare.
Although it reaches Brazilian cinemas Only in May 30th the film premiered in theaters in the United States at the end of March, but caused controversy with some religious groups on social media who called the film “diabolical”, “offensive”, “pure evil”, “profane”, “satanic” and “pro-abortion”, among other adjectives.
However, the producer responsible for “Imaculada”, Neon, does not seem to have been bothered by the criticism. On the contrary, posts about the film were transformed into promotional posts.
“Christians on Twitter gave their opinion,” says the caption of the post on the film’s official accounts.
