Sweden has confirmed the first case of monkeypox outside of Africa

Sweden’s Public Health Agency has confirmed it has recorded the first case of monkeypox outside of Africa. The person was infected while in Africa, where there is an outbreak of mpox Clade I, according to the agency. This development comes hours after the World Health Organization declared a global emergency over monkey pox. At least 450 people have died since the outbreak in the Republic of Congo. But what is mpox? Mpox is a viral infection that mainly affects humans and animals. It belongs to the group of viruses classified as “genus Orthopoxvirus”.
