Suspect is arrested for setting fire to the house of the governor of Pennsylvania

A 38 -year -old man was arrested in connection with a criminal fire in the house of the governor of Pennsylvania, while he and his family slept inside the building.

Pennsylvania state police say they are investigating an alleged criminal fire at the governor’s residence during the early hours of Sunday (13), which caused “significant damage” to the building.

Governor Josh Shapiro stated in an X publication that he and his family “woke up with knock on the door of the Pennsylvania State Police after an incendiary set fire to the governor’s residence in Harrisburg.”

He and his family were safely removed from the house by the state police and no one was injured, he added.

“Every day we support the police authorities and the rescuers who run in danger to protect our communities,” he said. “Last night, they did it for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe.”

The governor had celebrated the first night of the Jewish Easter earlier that night, according to an X publication.

Pennsylvania State Police said that although the investigation is underway, it is “prepared to state that it was a criminal fire.” FBI’s field office in Philadelphia is assisting the state police in its investigation, the agency told the agency CNN in an email.

Shapiro, 51, was elected governor of Pennsylvania in 2022 after six years as state attorney general. Preminent Democrat, he was one of several candidates appointed as a possible mate of former vice-president Kamala Harris during his 2024 presidential candidacy-and he himself was quoted as a possible presidential candidate for the 2028 election.

The Harrisburg Fire Department answered the fire around 2 am on Sunday, according to a statement to the Pennsylvania State Police press.

“Although the fire was successfully extinguished, it caused significant damage to a part of the residence,” the statement says.
