Supposed ETs exhibited in Mexico: in an old case, ‘Alien from Atacama’ frustrated ufologists

The supposed extraterrestrial bodies presented in Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies this week have attracted public attention. To date, however, there are no official studies that prove that the corpses are non-human or that this is yet another frustration for ufologists, as in the case of the “Atacama alien”.

In 2003, a mummified skeleton with several anomalies was found in the Atacama region of Chile, which intrigued researchers. The corpse was 15 centimeters tall, had a long and angular skull, tilted eye sockets and fewer ribs than normal (10 pairs instead of the normal 12).

Nicknamed “Ata”, the find was shown on several television programs, surrounded by speculation that it was an extraterrestrial life form.

15 years after the discovery, researchers were able to prove that the supposed alien skeleton was in fact human, although with multiple mutations associated with bone diseases.

The research revealed a series of mutations in seven genes in the corpse. As a consequence, bone and musculoskeletal deformities emerged, such as scoliosis and skeletal dysplasia, known as dwarfism.

To reach this result, scientists used genomic analysis in a study that lasted five years.

“What this case taught me was that sometimes there can be more than one big DNA difference involved in explaining a particularly difficult-to-explain patient. We should not stop a search when we find the first relevant mutation; in fact, there may be many others involved as well,” he told CNN, at the time, a senior author on the study, Atul Butte.

Supposed ETs displayed in Mexico

On Tuesday (12), two corpses of supposed extraterrestrial beings were displayed in the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico, during a debate in a Public Assembly for the Regulation of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena.

According to information provided by ufologist and journalist Jaime Maussan, who made the presentation, the bodies were found in Peru, in the Nazca Lines region, in 2015. According to the journalist, around 20 corpses measuring approximately 60 centimeters were found.

Of these, at least three had eggs inside them — which were supposed to be from pregnancies prior to death.

“They are non-human beings, which are not part of our terrestrial evolution and which, after disappearing, have no further evolution,” said Maussan.

According to him, the remains were the subject of a study by UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico), which, through carbon-14 analysis, identified that the remains are around a thousand years old.

To date, there are no more advanced studies on the bodies and no official conclusions.
