Sex educator Sue Johanson died on Thursday at the age of 93, according to CBC News. According to the news, she died in a nursing home in Thornhill, Ontario, north of Toronto, with her family.
Sue was born in Toronto and started her career as a nurse. In the 1970s, she opened a birth control clinic at her daughter Jane’s school and ran it for nearly 20 years.
“My mom was amazing. She could be anywhere at any time and people would recognize her voice,” Jane Johanson told “CBC News”.
“She never ignored people. She treated everyone absolutely the same. She was never judgmental, nor was she condescending or disapproving of any question that came her way,” she added.

Sue became known for debuting, in 1984, the program “Sunday Night Sexy Show”, on a local radio station in Toronto and which also won a TV version, through the W Network, between 1996 and 2005.
In the United States, the attraction “Talk Sex”, derived from these other programs, aired from 2002 to 2008, being sold to several countries, including Brazil.
In fact, on Brazilian soil, the program was broadcast by GNT, in the 2000s.
Johanson offered advice ranging from how to use a sex toy to other ways to spice up the relationship. In addition, he also navigated through taboos, without abandoning humor and frankness – his trademark.
Also according to the publication, considered an advocate for the public well-informed on sexual issues, Sue addressed topics and demographics ignored by traditional sex education in the 1990s.
While training to be a nurse, she was tutored by nuns who didn’t talk about the subject, which is responsible for encouraging her honest and non-judgmental approaches.
Sue, according to Jane, was never interested in becoming a celebrity or household name. She was just passionate about filling what she saw as a gap in the public health system.
“She loved what she did. She cared about people’s sexual health, sexual information, and she just wanted to help people in that way.”
