Sudan: RSF says ready to open airports to evacuate foreign nationals

The paramilitary organization Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Friday evening (21/4) that are ready to partially open all Sudanese airports so that other countries can evacuate their citizens.

The RSFs confirm their full readiness to cooperateto coordinate and provide all facilities that will allow foreigners and (diplomatic) missions to leave the country safely,” the statement said.

It is currently unclear to what extent the RSF controls Sudan’s airports.

THE Britain from her side based on this development puts military forces and aircraft on standby at a base abroadin case they need to help remove British embassy staff and British citizens from Sudan, the Sky News TV channel reported on Friday evening (21/4).

The British government has announced that the Ministry of Defense is assisting the Foreign Office in planning various possible contingencies.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias had a telephone conversation with the EU’s high representative for foreign policy and security policy matters, Josep Borrell, on Friday evening (21/4). They discussed the developments in Sudan and the close coordination for future operations to release Greeks and other EU citizens from the countryas soon as circumstances allow, as noted in a post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
