A study showed that Some artificial intelligence models have managed to go through the Turing test a hypothetical experiment proposed by British mathematician Alan Turing (1912-1954) to assess whether a machine can display intelligent behavior equivalent to that of a human being.
Four systems were put to the test for proof and in the case of OpenAi’s GPT-4.5 model, when instructed to adopt a similar persona to the human, artificial intelligence managed to deceive 73% of participants and pass through human .
THE new experiment It was led by Cameron R. Jones and Benjamin K. Bergen of the Cornell University Computer Science Department in the United States. The study has not yet been published and still needs to be reviewed by pairs, but concluded that an artificial system passes on a standard turing test of three participants.
Three other models were tested: Llama 3.1, from the goal, which was considered human 56% of the time and the GPT-4O base models, also from OpenAi, and Eliza, the first chatbot created, which obtained hit rates below chance-21% and 23%, respectively-showing that these systems were easily identified as machines.
In the titled Imitation Game – which is now widely known as the Turing Test – a human interrogator talks simultaneously with two witnesses (one human and a machine) only through written conversation.
Both witnesses try to convince the interrogator that they are the real human. If the interrogator cannot reliably identify who the human is, it is said that the machine passed on the test: an indication of its ability to imitate human intelligence.
