Preliminary results from a study carried out in Scotland with about 100,000 people revealed that 42% of patients who had Covid-19 feel partially recovered up to 18 months after contamination with the coronavirus. This was also verified by a survey carried out by Fiocruz in Brazil.
Some of the more than 200 reported symptoms of the so-called “Long Covid” are fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations, memory loss and difficulty thinking. The disease can affect different organs, with duration and severity varying from case to case.
To discuss causes and treatment recommendations, the CNN Our World this Saturday (5) receives Renato Kfouri, infectious disease specialist, president of the Department of Immunizations of the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics and director of the Brazilian Society of Immunizations.
“Perhaps the most common symptom of long-term Covid is fatigue. The tiredness that remains, respiratory indisposition often. Anything makes a person very tired. Some studies show, for example, that a person has a behavior in physical activity of a person 10 years older”, explained the specialist.
According to Kfouri, people who were vaccinated before becoming infected have a lower risk of having persistent symptoms of Covid.
“The great difficulty today is to continue motivating people to get vaccinated even though they no longer live with the diseases. In the past, when everyone knew someone who died of meningitis, we were more concerned.”
