The latest update of the Chatgpt which includes a GPT-4 integrated image generation tool, caused a real fever on social networks. The platform attracted, in just 1h, one million new users, surpassing the previous five -day record to reach the same brand when ChatgPT was originally launched.
The phenomenon was driven by a tendency to create renowned style illustrations Studio Ghibli responsible for the masterpieces of animation as “The trip of Chihiro” and “The Boy and the Heron” . Users flooded the internet with images that replicate the characteristic aesthetics of the Japanese studio, applied to the iconic scenes of pop culture and striking political moments.
Copyright debate
The popularity of the tool, however, raised important copyright and data protection questions. Hayao Miyazaki the legendary founder of Studio Ghibli had already positioned himself against the use of artificial intelligence in artistic creation, describing him as “an insult to life” in 2016.
“I’m completely disgusted,” he says in the video, responding to a video of a monster character generated using text prompts. “If you really want to do scary things, you can go ahead and do, but I would never want to incorporate this technology into my work.”
Felipe Rocha, a lawyer who specializes in intellectual property, commented on the challenge that this new reality represents:
“Moral law, which is the right of the author to have its work recognized as its creation, has been the main concern in this world of artificial intelligence, due to the speed with which things occur.”
Concerns with data protection
In addition to copyright issues, experts warn of the risks related to personal data protection.
Images sent to Chatgpt for Stylization can be stored by the platform, raising concerns about how this information will be used in the future.
