This will be the second semester of exclusively face-to-face activities since the announcement of the pandemic for most schools in the country. In the state network of São Paulo, students have already returned to classes after the holidays. And they will go through a period of reinforcement to reduce the gaps left by remote learning.
Each school unit proposes activities for the return trip according to the needs of its students. In some schools, class councils have been held to identify which skills are out of step. Professor Vanete Poletti says that moments of conversation and relaxation are an important part of this recovery.
“In the conversation we are having, several reported that they followed the reading platforms that we indicated. Even though it is fun, the pedagogical background helps a lot in the classroom”, says the teacher.
The more than 3.5 million students of the São Paulo state network are back in classrooms and on sports courts and schoolyards. The proposal of this first week is that it be lighter, dedicated to welcoming and readapting students to the school environment with more playful activities. After that, the focus shifts to reinforcing and reviewing the content taught throughout the first semester.
“In particular, after a long period of pandemic, it is necessary for them to feel welcomed, belonging to the school environment, and in a playful way introducing, yes, the content and their academic trajectory”, explains director Maria Carolina Jerônimo.
This is the second semester of exclusively face-to-face classes, after the beginning of the pandemic, for most schools in Brazil. Data from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) indicate that Brazilian education is the second most affected by the pandemic in Latin America, behind only Mexico.
According to Maria Carolina, the involvement of families with students makes a big difference in the evolution of learning.
“The involvement of families with the academic life of our students makes a big difference. They are young families, so the parents have a certain domain of technology, due to their working world. So they support us a lot”, says the director.
Students from the state network will have a second recess at the end of the third quarter, between October 10 and 14. And classes go until December 23. //
In the private network, the return of classes will only take place on August 1st. However, the pedagogical coordinator of the Poliedro network, Pedro Oscar Lorencini Júnior, says that there are students who, even on vacation, prefer the atmosphere of the classroom to study. He explains that so that students don’t lose their rhythm, questions are offered on duty and online tutoring, as well as educational guidance.
