Two weeks ago, the last two episodes of the fourth season of Stranger Things were released.
The series, responsible for the highest audience numbers on Netflixis also an absolute success in Brazil.
According to Google Trends dataactors Joseph Quinn and Jamie Campbell Bower, who joined Stranger Things this season and respectively play the characters Eddie and Vecna, are the names most sought after by Brazilians in searches related to the franchise.
This month, Eddie and Vecna visited São Paulo and talked to CNN Popverse about the fourth season.
“I was definitely already a fan. I think like everyone else, I was totally blown away by the first season. Then I watched the second, the third and enter [para Stranger Things] it’s very surreal. It’s still very surreal,” reported Joseph, or Joe.
The feeling of awe is shared among the newcomers to the series. Jamie called the feeling of being asked to play Eleven’s “brother” and antagonist “very strange”: “It doesn’t feel like it’s real life.”
The character of both were key points for the construction of the season. In Eddie’s case, the whole plot is pulled from the death of cheerleader Chrissy Cunningham – of which the young metalhead is accused.
Meanwhile, Vecna, the villain of the Upside Down and 001 from Dr. Martin Brenner, is revealed to be responsible for the deaths and all the recent torments in the fictional town of Hawkins.
A behind-the-scenes news of the series that moved social networks was the fact that Jamie used makeup, and not computer graphics, in the construction of Vecna. “It was about seven and a half hours to put the whole thing on and record for 10 hours, and then another hour and a half to remove everything,” he said.

“To go to the bathroom there was, like, a zipper in my pants, and I was wearing a thong, so, you know, I’m probably oversharing. Yeah, let’s leave it at that,” Jamie joked.
Already one of the highlights of the character Eddie this season is the scene in which he plays the guitar of the song “Master of Puppets, by Metallica.
The band themselves were impressed with the scene and the repercussion of the song. “It’s an incredible honor to be such an important part of Eddie’s journey and to once again keep company with all the other amazing artists who have participated in the series,” Metallica said in a statement.
Joe Quinn said he’s been playing guitar since he was a kid, which helped with the recording of the scene. But the soundtrack used in the series was recorded by another musician, in this case, the son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo.
“I had some fundamentals there. But yeah, in the hardest parts it wasn’t me,” Quinn said.

Playing with the protagonists
Throughout season four, Jamie filmed her key scenes opposite or with Sadie Sink, who plays Max, while the character was tormented by Vecna in her mind. Or with Millie Bobby Brown, Eleven, the one responsible for sending him to the upside down.
“It was incredible. They are very different actresses, very different people”, recalls the actor.
“Millie was terrified of Vecna when she first saw him. We obviously worked together doing stuff when I played Henry, in human form, so we formed a real friendship,” he revealed.
“So to be as Vecna in front of her, I think it was very shocking, in an interesting way. She is very vulnerable and open as a person,” she added.
In an interview with Variety, it was revealed that something that helped Millie lose her “fear” of Vecna was smelling cigarettes, as Jamie is a smoker.

As for the scenes with Max, Jamie said that while Sadie was “also very vulnerable and open”, the character was “tough”.
“They required different forms of emotional manipulation. With Sadie and Max it was more aggressive, like I had to push myself a little harder and try to fuck her, whereas with Mills it was like she was just terrified,” Jamie said.
On the other hand, the main scenes developed by Joe Quinn as Eddie were not highlighted by the confrontation of characters, but by their emotional connection.
The main one portrays the last moments of Eddie, who died in the arms of Dustin, played by Gaten Matarazzo, after a battle against “demobats”, the bats of the Upside Down.

“[A última cena] it was pretty weird. We filmed this scene kind of at the end of a night of shooting, after I’d spent about 3 hours fighting demobats,” recalls Joe.
“Then I went to the makeup department, […]and then we shot this scene it was almost 4:30 in the morning, when the sun was already rising”, he adds.
He says the scene had to be treated in the studio separately for his and Gaten’s close-ups. “We were both very relieved. [quando terminou] for taking that weight off our shoulders, because that kind of scene is kind of [faz cara de assustado]”, added Joe.
“A red inverted world”

If they were going to create another dimension, their own inverted world, Jamie and Joe agreed it would be red.
“Yeah, we’re going to have a red world. Red blood. Okay, just a red world. Do you think it would be a peaceful place or would it be devious?” asks Joe.
“Flesh,” Jamie retorts.
“Yeah, meaty looks good. Fleshy and red, that’s it,” concludes Joe.
Singing “Evidence” and São Paulo game
The two actors did not summarize their passage through Brazil to talk to the press.
They were also able to meet with the fans, and were caught in an “end of party” moment, listening to the classic “Evidências”, by Chitãozinho & Xororó.

Jamie and Joe also strolled through the central region of São Paulo.
At a stop at Galeria do Rock, they chose records that would have songs “to protect them from Vecna”.
While Joe chose “The Party Album” by Dutch Eurodance group Vengaboys, Jamie went more classically and chose “Kind of Blue” by jazz legend Miles Davis.

It is worth noting that Jamie still had time to stop by Morumbi to watch a São Paulo game.
Hot foot, the British actor witnessed the 4-1 rout of the Tricolor against Universidad Católica, for the Sudamericana.
São Paulo has not lost since Jamie went to watch the team.
