Amidst the tragedy the Turkish people are experiencing due to the deadly earthquakes, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenbergexerts pressure and called her Turkey to simultaneously ratify the accession of Finland and Sweden to the Alliance.
“I have been urging them for many months to validate the accession of both countries at the same time,” Stoltenberg said during a press conference he gave shortly after the end of his defense ministers’ meeting NATO. He noted, however, that it is Turkey’s decision whether to ratify both countries at the same time or not. “This is a Turkish decision,” he stressed, “not a NATO decision.”
Stoltenberg reported that the accession series it doesn’t matter that much as far as becoming a member of NATO as soon as possible Sweden and Finland. He also expressed confidence that both countries will become members of NATO. He reminded that 28 NATO members have already ratified the accession protocol of the two Scandinavian countries, not but Hungary and Turkey, broadcasts the APE-MPE. Finally, G.G. of NATO said that tomorrow he will visit Turkey, where he will meet with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and with Foreign Minister Mevlüt ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu in Ankara and will visit areas affected by the devastating earthquakes of February 6.
