rThe Superior Court of Justice (STJ) again postponed the judgment of the appeal of the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), in which he asks that the case against him be maintained in the Court. The trial has already been adjourned at least seven times.
This Wednesday (21), the process was scheduled, but was not called. In practice, the ministers will analyze whether they accept Castro’s request for his entire process to go back to Brasília. Like every governor, Castro wants to have a forum in the STJ.
In April of this year, the case would be resumed, but it was postponed because of a request for an inspection by Benedito Gonçalves. The rapporteur, Minister Luís Felipe Salomão, voted for the case to continue in the STJ.
Castro was cited in a complaint for participating in a scheme to embezzle health funds when he was still vice-governor.
When the former governor of Rio Wilson Witzel lost the status of governor, Justice Benedito Barbosa, of the STJ, ordered the entire case to be dropped from the court to the first instance of the Federal Justice, which included the current governor Cláudio Castro, because the minister understood that the facts under investigation were related to the period in which Castro was deputy governor.
The minister concluded that “no authority with jurisdiction by prerogative of function in the STJ, nor by continence, nor by connection persisted”.
THE CNN sought the advice of the governor, who has not yet manifested.
