THE aerosmith canceled some of the band’s Las Vegas residency dates while the vocalist Steven Tyler seeks rehabilitation treatment.
A statement posted on Aerosmith’s verified Instagram account on Tuesday explained that Tyler, 74, had recently had a relapse after surgery.
“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” the statement read. “Following foot surgery to prepare for the stage and needing pain management during the process, he recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to focus on his health and recovery.”
Tyler has spoken out about his substance abuse in the past. In 2009, he underwent treatment for abusing prescription drugs.
In 2017, the singer told CNN who was inspired to open Janie’s House, a home for abused and neglected girls on the outskirts of Atlanta, after meeting women during a period of rehabilitation who sought treatment, in part because of the abuse they suffered.
“While I was in rehab, I discovered that most of the women there were beaten and verbally and sexually abused,” he said at the time. “It was like seven out of 10, eight out of 10.”
According to Aerosmith’s statement, the June and July dates for the “Deuces Are Wild” residency have been canceled while Tyler “focuses on his well-being.”
