SteelSeries introduced Arena gaming speakers: big, expensive and backlit

Today, August 23rd, SteelSeries officially unveiled a new line of PC gaming speakers that give gamers the freedom to choose the best option for their use case. In total, there are three models in the SteelSeries Arena speaker line – Arena 3, Arena 7 and Arena 9. This is a traditional format for a manufacturer that allows you to separate the base model from the flagship by some kind of intermediate option. And although the Arena 3 version (the youngest model in the line) should theoretically be a representative of the affordable segment, this is not entirely true – the manufacturer asks for $ 130 for these speakers.

This is actually quite expensive, since for this money the user gets ordinary two-channel speakers without any frills. Yes, there are emitters with a diameter of 4 inches, there is a connection to various devices via a 3.5 mm output, plus the body design characteristic of the line is used. But that’s where the benefits of speakers end. The mid-ranger Arena 7 also has a slight increase in performance – this can be said to be the basic version of Arena 3, only with RGB lighting (configurable in software), a subwoofer and compatibility with PlayStation consoles via USB Type-A cable. For these speakers, the manufacturer asks just a space price of $ 300.

Here I would like to note that some very high-quality speakers, albeit not gaming ones, from top brands also cost $ 300-400, but they will probably sound much better. In addition, only in the top version of Arena 9, the manufacturer provides 5.1 surround sound, adding an additional center and two wall speakers (to be placed behind the user) in the package. In addition, Arena 9 also has a special panel with an OLED display to control the sound of the entire system. For this, the manufacturer asks for $ 550, which, of course, can be justified by the backlight, subwoofer and four speakers.

Additionally, the manufacturer has released a wireless Arena microphone with an ear mount – it costs $ 100, although it looks like a regular microphone from a headset used in call centers. This microphone allows you to communicate in voice chat, while listening to the sounds of the game and chat through the speakers. In this case, the user’s ears do not get tired of the bulky headset, which has the right to life.
