International coffee chain Starbucks is launching a customer reward system using NFT. Polygon provides a blockchain for minting collectible tokens.
The joint project will enable Starbucks Rewards members and US Starbucks partners to earn and purchase branded NFTs. Users will be able to earn non-fungible Starbucks tokens by completing tasks in interactive games.
All planned activities are designed to give the customer a deeper understanding of the Starbucks brand and coffee. Upon successful completion of the games, customers will earn NFTs, which the company calls “Travel Stamps”.
Customers wishing to participate in Starbucks events can register as early as September 12th. Activities are scheduled for the end of the year. Ryan Butz, VP of Loyalty, Strategy and Marketing at Starbucks, said that Starbucks Odyssey uses technology in line with the company’s aspirations and commitments:
“We took a thoughtful and careful approach when choosing a blockchain, and Polygon is the perfect foundation to launch our first digital community.”
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal explained the role blockchain plays in the joint program:
“As an infrastructure provider that allows people and technology to freely and globally collaborate and share value, Polygon will provide a launching pad for Starbucks’ entry into Web3.”
Back in April, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz revealed that the company plans to enter the NFT space and release its own collection of unique tokens before the end of the year.
