“Special moment”: Woman celebrates the end of chemotherapy with a car ride and goes viral

Iaraça Saldanha, 30 years old, born in Avaré, in the interior of São Paulo, has a long history of cancer treatment. After two recurrences, which is the return or recurrence of the cancer, the physiotherapist decided to celebrate the end of her last chemotherapy and the video of the celebration went viral on social networks. The post has already surpassed one million views on Wednesday (28).

She decorated the car with a sign asking other cars to honk and pink balloons.

“The celebration was something I always wanted to do this way with the car and horns, but the other times I ended up not doing it”, tells Iaraça for the CNN . “This time I felt it was time. My mother, Leny, and my sister, Jurema, helped and supported me to realize and participate in this moment, which was much more exciting and special than I imagined.”

According to her, the people on the street celebrated and with the video others were able to know her story and celebrate this moment. “I am so grateful for the affection, shares, messages, comments.”

Iaraça initially went through several doctors before being diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix in 2021 and at that point it was already in stage three and had spread.

“It was a race against time. I had to close my clinic and move to Sorocaba to start treatment as soon as possible, ”she says.

By the end of 2021 he had finished training which included chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy.

“From then on, I went into remission and went to enjoy my life, as I had decided, and to fulfill my dreams as much as possible, including an exchange program in New York.”

In 2022, when doing routine exams, he discovered that the cancer had returned and had spread to the lymph nodes in the abdomen, requiring surgery.

She then returned to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, with trips to São Paulo. “My case, always a very delicate diagnosis, got even more complicated when the second treatment ended. Two months later I was diagnosed with a relapse again in 2023,” she says.

The third treatment involved stronger chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which, with its end, led to the celebration of Iaraça. There is still a week of immunotherapy left and she will have new exams.

The third treatment did not prevent her from having new experiences. “It was a big dream to go to the Coldplay concert and I achieved it this year. I had done one of the strongest chemo sessions and my hair started falling out the same day as the show. I just put on a cap and went”, the song Yellow, by the band, is used in the celebration video.

Meanwhile, the physiotherapist is dedicated to recovery and almost all of her time is spent traveling to São Paulo for sessions. “I haven’t been able to work since 2021 because of the treatment. I have been producing content on social networks like TikTok and I have received a lot of support, doing daily lives and I already have 120k followers there ”, she says.

Iaraça intends to continue producing content to serve as inspiration for people and family members who are going through similar situations. “My goal is to show that there is a lot of life between diagnosis and cure.”
