The Spain Coast Guard rescued on Sunday (13) 50 migrants trying to reach the Canary Islands on an inflatable boat, the Spanish Red Cross said.
The migrants, including 45 men, four women and a minor, were taken to the port of El Rosario, on the island of Fuerteventura.
The boat was located 144 kilometers from Lanzarote Island.
Due to heavy rains of the last days, the coast guard boat took them to Fuerteventura, the authorities said.
The Canary Archipelago is still struggling to absorb the historical migratory peak from 2024, although irregular migration decreased 28% this year.
The Atlantic route is especially dangerous, as bad ocean time can easily turn the fragile ferry, canoes and boats used by most migrants.
