Spain: King Felipe says his fortune is 2.6 million euros

King Felipe VI of Spain has revealed that his fortune amounts to about 2.6 million euros in an effort to make the image of the Royal House more transparent and to end the period of opacity that reigned during the reign of his father, Juan Carlos.

The king’s assets include just under € 2.3 million in bank accounts and shares and he also owns works of art, antiques and jewelery worth more than € 305,000, according to a statement released by the Royal House. .

There is no reference to real estate.

The king’s fortune comes mainly from the more than 4.3 million euros he has raised in the last 25 years, an amount that was taxed, the announcement notes.

“Today, more than ever, citizens are reasonably demanding moral values that inspire and standards that govern our public life,” said King Felipe.

Felipe ascended the throne in 2014 when Juan Carlos’s father resigned in the wake of a tax fraud case involving members of the royal family as well as an elephant safari scandal at a time when Spain was in deep recession.

As part of efforts to modernize the monarchy and distance itself from the scandals, King Felipe relieved his older sisters, Elena and Christina, of their royal duties.

A few years later Felipe renounced the inheritance from his father, from whom he took the royal allowance.

Juan Carlos, who holds the title of Honorary King, left Spain and settled in the United Arab Emirates in August 2020, where he has lived ever since.
