SpaceX buys Twitter ad campaign for Starlink

SpaceX has purchased a Twitter advertising package for its Starlink satellite internet service, Elon Musk, owner of the rocket company and social media platform, said in a tweet Monday.

“SpaceX Starlink purchased a small ad package to test the effectiveness of Twitter advertising in Australia and Spain. Did the same for Facebook/Instagram/Google,” Musk tweeted.

The move comes as Twitter, which generated more than 90% of its second-quarter revenue from ad sales, faces an exodus of advertisers fearing Musk will make changes to the company’s content moderation rules.

Since he bought the company last month, General Motors, General Mills, Mondelez and Volkswagen have all suspended advertising on the platform.

The chief executive of Tesla and SpaceX told advertisers last week that he intends to transform the social media platform and end fake accounts.
