SpaceX awarded contract to launch Europa Clipper probe to Jupiter’s satellite

The Europa Clipper mission is scheduled to begin in October 2024. The Falcon Heavy rocket will be sent to Jupiter, which will be launched from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The total value of the launch services contract is approximately $ 178 million.

Europa Clipper, in particular, will try to find out if Jupiter’s moon has conditions suitable for life. For this, on board the spacecraft, according to NASA, there will be “a complex set of scientific instruments.” The mission also includes high-resolution imaging of Europa’s surface, determining its composition, looking for signs of recent or ongoing geological activity, measuring the thickness of the ice sheet, searching for underground lakes, and determining the depth and salinity of Europa’s oceans.
