The state of São Paulo begins to replace the issuance of the first copy of ID and will only issue the National Identity Card (CIN), this Monday (1). The first copy of the document is free.
The service must be carried out at Poupatempo stations and in units managed by the Ricardo Gumbleton Daunt Identification Institute (IIRGD), a body linked to the Civil Police.
The CIN will be the only document valid nationwide, from 2032, in accordance with Law 14,534, of January 11, 2023. Until this date, the state ID card remains valid.
The government of São Paulo clarifies that the National Card adopts the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) number as the National General Registry. This eliminates chances of duplication in citizen identification and reduces the possibility of fraud.
The document features a QR Code, which allows you to verify its authenticity, as well as find out if it has been stolen or lost, using any smartphone. The digital version will be available on the GOV.BR app, in the Document Portfolio menu.
How to schedule the issuance of the National Identity Card (CIN)
- Schedule issuance through the Poupatempo SP.GOV.BR mobile app, through the portal (www.poupatempo.sp.gov.br), self-service kiosks or via WhatsApp, on number (11) 95220-2974
- On the scheduled date, the citizen must go to the chosen location taking their birth or marriage certificate with them.
It is possible to issue the document at any Poupatempo unit, in the capital and interior, or at Civil Police stations throughout São Paulo, which will be available at the time of scheduling, according to the government.
Requirements to request the new document
- Have a GOV.BR account
- Be in good standing with the Federal Revenue Service
- Not have another CIN request in progress
If a discrepancy is identified in the Federal Revenue database, or the citizen does not yet have a CPF, the state ID will be provided as a document option.
Minors under 16 must be accompanied by a legal guardian with an original identification document and a copy.

The state government clarifies that the new scheduling channels, such as the portal, totems and the program’s WhatsApp, are ways to adapt to the changes and expand the service.
