The state of São Paulo confirmed the fourth death from dengue, according to the latest report from the State Department of Health (SES). Two deaths were recorded in Pindamonhangaba, one in Jacareí and another in Bebedouro.
Between January 1st and 20th, 2024, the state recorded 10,728 cases of dengue. The number is already more than double compared to the same period last year, when the state registered 3,299 confirmed cases of the disease.
The Federal District and Minas Gerais declared an emergency due to the increase in the number of dengue and chikungunya cases in the first weeks of the year.
In the state of Minas Gerais, in 2024, there were 21,573 confirmed cases of dengue. In the DF, in the first three weeks of the year, the health department states that there were 17,150 suspected occurrences of the disease, of which 16,628 are classified as probable cases.
According to the Ministry of Health, in 2023, 408,395 probable cases of dengue and 197 deaths from the disease were recorded. The folder also confirms 12,890 cases of chikungunya, with 45 deaths in the same period. In 2024, there will already be 120,874 confirmed cases and 12 deaths.
The Ministry of Defense placed army personnel at the disposal of the Ministry of Health, to help with measures to combat dengue.
