São Paulo reached the number of 100 confirmed deaths from dengue in the year 2024, according to the disease monitoring panel released by the State Department of Health (SES), updated this Wednesday (20). At the moment, the state is close to 270 thousand confirmed cases.
Of the total number of confirmed cases, 305 are serious. Furthermore, SES is investigating 231 deaths that may be related to the disease caused by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
Situation in the capital
The city of São Paulo has so far recorded 11 deaths from dengue. According to the SES, a further 47 deaths are under investigation.
Close to the mark of 70 thousand confirmed cases of the disease, the city hall declared a state of emergency last Monday (18). The agency says it sent, on the morning of that day, the fourth letter to the Ministry of Health asking for more doses of the Qdenga vaccine to be sent.
According to the agency, the three previous requests, made on January 29th and February 6th and 20th, were not responded to by the Federal Government.
Aiming to combat the emergency situation, City Hall announced the expansion of opening hours in all 80 Ambulatory Medical Assistance (AMAs) units. From Monday onwards, the units started to operate three hours longer, remaining open until 10pm.
