S&P 500 Index Opens at New All-Time Highs Above 3,720

The main Wall Street indices They opened sharply higher on Thursday as investors applauded the Federal Reserve’s commitment to supporting economic recovery and the impending US stimulus deal.

As of this writing, both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were up about 0.6% and were trading at all-time highs of 3,722 and 12,751, respectively. Additionally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.5% to 30,300.

Earlier in the day, Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine told MSNBC that the parties had basically reached an agreement on the coronavirus relief aid bill and added that they were preparing the legislative text.

The top 11 sectors of the S&P 500 remain in positive territory after the opening bell. The risk-sensitive technology index is up 1% as the top winner and the financial index is the worst performer, up just 0.08%.
