S&P 500 futures surge after Moderna says vaccine is 94.5% effective

Futures on the US stock indices. They turned north on Monday after the latest news from Moderna revived optimism about the coronavirus vaccine and caused a positive shift in risk sentiment. At time of writing, S&P 500 futures were up 1.36% on the day to 3,585, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up more than 1% and Nasdaq futures barely changed.

Moderna reported Monday that its COVID-19 vaccine candidate showed an effectiveness rate of 94.5% in the interim analysis. In addition, the company noted that it will seek authorization for the emergency use of the vaccine in the US in the coming weeks. Following this report, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ: MRNA) stock is up more than 18% in premarket trading.
