About 18% of the songs charged at Deezer are fully generated by artificial intelligence, the French streaming platform said on Wednesday (16), highlighting the growing use of technology amid copyright risks and concerns about fair payments to artists.
Deezer said more than 20,000 AI -generated lanes are charged on its platform every day, which is almost double the number four months ago.
“The content generated by IA continues to flood streaming platforms like Deezer and we see no sign that it is decreasing,” said Aurelien Herault, the company’s head of innovation.
Herault added that a detection tool launched in January is helping the company to filter tracks fully generated by the AI of algorithmic recommendations to its 9.7 million subscribers.
The growing use of the Generative AI in the creative sectors triggered a wave of lawsuits, with artists, authors and rights holders accusing AI companies to use copyright -protected material without consent or compensation to train their models.
Among the targets are the musical tools of Ia Suno and Udio, which are facing the lawsuits of Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music.
The labels, which represent artists such as Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran, accused copyright violation startups last year for allegedly training AI systems with their recordings.
The deezer detection tool can detect the results of Sun and Udio, according to the streaming platform.
Dozens of musicians, including Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj and Stevie Wonder, also wrote an open letter last year warning that AI and trained music using their work could “sabotage creativity” and ward off human artists.
