Social and anxiety: that’s why Dua Lipa no longer manages her profiles

The other day, before posting my selfie on Instagram I took at least twenty photos to choose the best one. Ok, I’m not at the levels of Kylie Jenner that gets to even 100, but I realized that we are all a bit slaves of wanting to show the best version of ourselves on social media. Then, it often happens that at the first negative comment we lose all our security and confidence with even lasting effects.

Nobody is immune to this toxic mechanism, not even celebs who have make-up artists, hairdressers, wonderful clothes and professional photographers available. Just like Dua Lipa that, lately, stated that to safeguard her mental health she decided not to manage her social profiles personally after realizing that this created a great state of anxiety.

“Every time I started scrolling through my Instagram feed, I felt deeply uncomfortable. I was wondering how everyone would comment on my photos and I was starting to lose faith in myself ». A feeling that surprised her because it came completely suddenly: “At the beginning of my career – said the singer – no one on social media ever wrote me bad things, then the situation went totally out of control”.

The turning point was the video of New love, the first hit single from her debut album. With the increase in the views, negative comments about her look, way of singing or being on stage also arrived. “I began to feel inadequate and to fill myself with anxiety and each time getting on stage it became more and more difficult”he said. One of the first deleterious effects? His sanity began to falter and contact with the public became increasingly problematic. In an interview a few months ago he explained that, during live, every time he saw someone film her with his smartphone he thought: “Now he will put the video online so he can criticize me and make fun of me”.

Yet another testimony to how social, in some cases, can be extremely negative. However, the words of Dua Lipa they can help those who are experiencing the same problems online and, perhaps, push them to talk about it or take an example from her: a period of detox online to reconnect with oneself and with one’s mental balance, reminding us that negative comments are not defining or describing what we really are. By the way, you know how ours then answered Two to his haters? “I know that I am very good at what I do and how much work it took me to be here, these judgments will not make me forget.”
