Snowstorm puts eight million on alert in Northeast US

A snowstorm is expected to hit the northeastern United States in the next few days, a rare phenomenon for the month of April in the northern hemisphere. According to the country’s National Weather Service (NWS, its acronym in English), snow should hit the region as early as Tuesday morning.

The storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean from a cold front and is expected to hit major American cities such as Boston and New York. where Monday night (18) was already marked by heavy rains.

Winds can reach 80 kilometers per hour, which can cause flooding in coastal areas of the northeastern US. According to the NWS, snowfall can reach up to 30 centimeters in northernmost states such as Vermont and Massachusetts.

Authorities warn of the possibility of falling trees and power outages in some regions, due to heavy rains that accompany the snow.
