At least 12 people were killed in a gunfire in the Manabí Coastal Province, Ecuador, the Ecuadorian police said on Friday (18).
According to the authorities, those responsible would be gang criminals who operate in the country.
“There was a violent event during a rooster fight, where 12 people were killed in an armed attack,” said Colonel Renan Miller, commander of Zone 4 of the Police Force.
Force also reported that injured people at the event were taken to nearby hospitals.
There is still no information on the motivation of the attack, no details about who the victims were. So far, no one has been arrested.
Ecuador is experiencing a wave of violence between gangs that vie for drug trafficking control in the country. Reelected President Daniel Noboa promised to combat organized crime.
