When at Vanity Fair Stories we asked him if SKAM Italy would have had a sixth season Ludovico Bessagato has chosen the path of diplomacy, neither confirming nor denying the news but nevertheless leaving open a glimmer of light that finally became a reality on January 26, when Netflix shared the photo of the very first script prompting us to keep our antennas straight and our eyes open. So it’s official: SKAM Italy, refined adaptation of the original Norwegian series set up by Cross Productions, will return once again even if it is clear that, inevitably, it will no longer be the SKAM than once. Because? Simple: the next season will, in fact, be the first season to definitively abandon the school desks, focusing on the life of the characters on the threshold of twenty years.
Not a small change, but on which we need to reflect: having reached this point in history, SKAM Italy could go two ways. The first is to continue to tell the historical protagonists following their university adventures, and the other is to shift the lens, stay in high school and delve into the stories and profiles of younger characters such as Asia (Nicole Rossi) and Purple (Leah Gavino). Since we are romantics, we would like the series to follow the first input, also because we can delve into the delicate step that leads children to abandon adolescence to enter adulthooda would be especially interesting to see. The question, however, is another: on which character will the sixth season focus?
At a rough guess, it would be very likely to assume the point of view of Federicathe good Martina Lelio, who over the seasons has never really emerged except for her initial crush on Martino, his temperament, his indolence in studying and the delicate issue of harassment touched upon in the last few episodes of SKAM 5. Her theme, needless to say, could easily focus on weight, given that the same protagonists of the series have repeatedly joked about her size, coining the nickname “Federicona” for her. We know how much the body positive discourse is now inflated, but we are equally sure that SKAM Italy, which has achieved extraordinary results both in the second season on Martino’s homosexuality and in the fourth on Sana’s cultural integration, could find the right key to illuminate the phenomenon from a different point of view, possibly never adopted before. However, it would also be interesting to discover the story behind two wonderful characters like John (Ludovico Tersigni), the friend and boyfriend we all wish we had, e Sylvia (Greta Ragusa), a fragile girl who, especially at the beginning of SKAM, she seemed obsessed with the judgment of others, dealing with insecurity about herself. In short, there are many doubts, but the certainty that Bessegato and his team will use all their strength to create a great product reassures us.
