Six fugitives have already been caught by facial recognition at June events in Bahia

Facial recognition cameras have already helped in the arrest of six fugitives from justice in the June festivities areas in Bahia. According to the State Public Security Secretariat (SSP-BA), two criminals were caught in the Pelourinho area, at points monitored by the tool in Salvador, and the other four in the municipality of Jequié, in the Southwest region.

The men were wanted for murder, robbery, receiving stolen goods and a man with a warrant issued for non-payment of pension was also caught by technology.

São João da Bahia is monitored by teams from the Civil, Military and Technical Police, in addition to the Fire Department. In total, 22 thousand Security Forces agents operate in the capital and in cities in the Metropolitan Region and in the interior of the state.

During the June festivities, the SSP uses 104 Facial Recognition cameras, technology that helps in capturing fugitives from justice. In total, there are 454 cameras positioned at city entrances and event locations, in addition to equipment installed at Approach Portals, which allows safe access to parties.

The public count is also carried out by the system during the festivities and showed more than 200 thousand people, in five days of celebration, in the capital of Bahia alone. There were 118 thousand Bahians and tourists enjoying São João da Bahia, in the Exhibition Park.

The partial balance, completed in the early hours of this Monday (24), also showed that 83,884 people visited Pelourinho, a region in the Historic Center of Salvador.
