Singles’ Day: see 10 series and films to enjoy the date

Put away the romantic declarations, now it’s the singles’ turn! After cute posts, romantic movies, flowers, dinners and teddy bears in the Valentine’s Day it’s the turn of those who enjoy their own company in solitude.

This Thursday (15), the Singles Day in Brazil. How about enjoying the date by watching something fun or even quite anti-romantic? Movies about friendship, love stories that didn’t work out so well, plots about crimes and revenge can be a great choice for Singles’ Day.

It was with this in mind that CNN selected 10 works that will make you enjoy the date in the best possible way.

Series

“Friends” (1994-2004)

The most famous series about friendship, “Friends” is a sitcom about six friends who face life and love in New York and love spending their free time at the Central Perk coffee shop. Together, they overcome all obstacles, always supporting each other. With 10 seasons, the comedy is available on Max (free) and Prime Video (for rent).

“Sex and the City” (1998 – 2004)

Friendship, success and sex. In “Sex and the City”, columnist Carrie Bradshaw and her friends Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda explore the entire universe of singles in New York. In their early thirties, they are beautiful, successful and, above all, united by a great friendship. The series has six seasons and has a spin-off called “And Just Like That”, which premiered in 2021. Both productions are available on Max.

“Good Girls” (2018 – 2021)

Three quiet women who dedicated their lives to taking care of their children and husbands are going through a crisis and see the world of crime as a solution to their problems. The problem is that they have no experience in this field and will have to rely heavily on friendship and unity when things get really complicated. The series had four seasons and is available on Netflix.

“You” (2018)

A charming flirt who doesn’t use these characteristics for a good cause… Obsessive, Joe goes to extremes to enter the lives of those who charm him. Is there a romance less romantic than “You”? Behind the protagonist’s gentle manner, there is a murderous rage and a disturbing past. The series has four seasons and has already been renewed for the fifth and final one, which should be released next year. All episodes are available on Netflix.

“Dial for Murder” (2019 – 2022)

Jen loses her husband in a car accident. In a group therapy session, the widow befriends Judy, an eccentric and fun woman. The two grow closer during this difficult time, but Judy hides shocking secrets. The series has three seasons and is available on Netflix.

“All Against John” (2006)

After discovering they are dating the same man, three students from different schools band together for revenge. They enlist the help of a new girl in town and conspire to break his heart while destroying his reputation. The film is available on Disney+

“(500) Days of Summer” (2009)

A not-so-cliché and exactly romantic love story. A writer is surprised when his girlfriend, Summer, suddenly breaks up with him. As a result, he reminisces about several moments from the 500 days they spent together to try to figure out where their love affair went wrong. The film is available on Disney+

“How to Be Single” (2016)

Alice is a young woman who has just become single. With the help of her friend Robin, she learns to make the most of her new status in New York City, where everyone is hoping to find their soulmate. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video.

“Girls Trip” (2017)

Promoting friendship, fun, travel and comedy all mixed together, four longtime friends travel to New Orleans for the Essence Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered and there is lots of dancing, drinking and romance. The film is available for rent on Globoplay and Netflix.

“Marriage Story” (2019)

A not-so-happy and hopeful story about a marriage, the film follows Nicole and Charlie who, after years, see their marriage fall apart. Charlie is a successful director and Nicole is an actress who has put her career on hold. Amidst arguments and resentment, the two try to save what is left of their relationship. The production is available on Netflix.
