Singapore has confirmed its first case of the new covid variant. All the cases of the new variant have come to the city-state from Europe.
One case has been confirmed for the newly discovered B117 covid strain and initial tests of 11 others who had been isolated upon their arrival to the country have come back positive.
As a result, Singapore has banned the arrival of others coming from the United Kingdom, to prevent further spread of the virus’ new strain. The person who tested positive for the new strain had come from the UK and landed in Singapore on the 6th of December. She tested positive two days later and every one who had been in close contact with the patient was quarantined. Fortunately, the rest of them tested negative.
The health ministry of the country stated that there is no evidence of the circulation of the new B117 covid strain among the local population.
The small country has dealt with the pandemic exceptionally well, bringing the locally transmitted cases down to almost zero.
