The band Simple Plan gives voice to a pop punk cover of “Can You Feel Tonight” movie success “The Lion King” (1994), originally performed by the singer Elton John . The song is the first released from a new Disney project, titled “A Whole New Sound”, which seeks to bring classic tracks “reimagined” by iconic alternative, rock, punk and pop bands.
The song is also a tribute to the film on the 30th anniversary of “The Lion King”.
“We wanted to pay homage to Elton John’s original version while also bringing our own style to the song, making it fun and energetic. We’re really excited about the result and hope everyone enjoys it,” the members of Simple Plan said in a press release.
“We grew up watching Disney movies with our families and now we watch them with our kids. So it’s amazing to be asked to be a part of this album,” they add.
On August 9, the band will also take the stage at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, in California, United States, to perform the single live for fans present at the event.
The cover of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” is now available on all digital platforms. There is no release date yet for new songs from the project or the full album.
