Sigma failed to meet demand in Q4 2021

The semiconductor shortage that hit many industries in the past year has also affected photographic equipment manufacturers such as Sigma. Unlike Sony and others on the shop floor, Sigma has not released any notices related to the shortage and its impact on production, but Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki recently clarified the situation. He tweeted that the shortage is and will continue to affect some of the company’s products.

Sigma failed to meet demand in Q4 2021

In response to a question from a UK subscriber who complained that he could not find three specific Sigma lens models from any local retailer, Yamaki admitted that while Sigma production is running at full capacity, the company “simply could not meet the demand for some products in the fourth quarter of 2021 “.

In addition, Yamaki wrote that “a shortage of semiconductors could affect the production of some products in 2022.” In other words, Sigma management is not confident that the situation will improve. While the company’s CEO did not elaborate on what products he had in mind, given the context of the question he was answering, it’s safe to say that the shortage is affecting lens manufacturing.
