Shopping centers in Brazil predict a slowdown in sales growth this year, to 14.6% compared to an expansion of 20.5% in 2022, informed the association that represents the sector (Abrasce), this Wednesday (8).
The entity also estimated that, despite the slowdown, the sector’s revenues will reach a record BRL 219.8 billion in 2023, after BRL 191.8 billion in 2022.
Last year, all regions showed growth in revenues, with the Southeast showing a 22% increase in sales, according to Abrasce.
The Northeast had an increase of 19.9%, the Center-West advanced 18.8%, the South grew 16.9% and the North had a gain of 13.8%.
The sector opened eight shopping centers in Brazil last year, against five in 2021, totaling 628 malls.
According to the survey, 15 new developments are expected to open this year, eight in the Southeast.
The average number of monthly visitors reached 443 million, up 11.6% over 2021.
Vacancy in 2022 was 5.6%, close to the 4.7% recorded in 2019, before the pandemic.
There was also an increase of 2.3% in jobs held, to 1.044 million.
According to the association, the data reflects the recovery of the sector with the resumption of the face-to-face public after the pandemic.
“The decrease in inflationary pressure and the resumption in the growth of jobs, culminating in a greater mass of earnings, mainly in the second semester, contributed to the growth of the sector”, said the president of Abrasce, Glauco Humai.
