A rescue operation is underway in the English Channel for a shipwreck with migrants who were trying to get to the UK, as announced today by the Port Authority.
The Coast Guard is “currently co-ordinating a search and rescue operation following an incident involving a small vessel off the coast of Kent,” according to the statement.
According to the Daily Mail at least three people have lost their lives.
Authorities have mobilized boats and rescue teams from several towns in southeast England, as well as two British helicopters and a French navy helicopter.
On the French side, its port administration Channel and of the North Sea added that a naval patrol vessel has also moved to the area. “A fishing vessel located in the area is also participating in the rescue,” according to the coast guard.
