According to the Brazilian Paper Packaging Association (Empapel), the volume of shipments per business day was 12,032 thousand tons in the month, also a drop of 4.3% in the annual comparison, since December 2021 recorded the same number of days. useful compared to December 2020.
The preview of Empapel’s indicators indicates that the Brazilian Corrugated Cardboard Index (IBPO) also dropped 4.3% in December compared to the same month of the previous year, to 139.3 points.
This is the first year-on-year decline in the indicator for the months of December since 2018.
According to data free of seasonal influence, the preview for December registers the first increase, of 1.6%, after five consecutive months of falling IBPO, to 148.3.
The volume shipped only of corrugated cardboard was 332,204 tons, the highest volume since September 2021 (333,129 tons).
Shipment per business day in seasonally adjusted data was 12,777 tonnes, down 6.2% over the previous month.
Considering the result of the fourth quarter, Empapel found a drop in the shipment of corrugated cardboard of 5.3% compared to the same period in 2020.
In 2021, the volume was 4.077 million tons, an increase of 4.3% compared to 2020.
