The actress Shelley Duvall known for her role in “The illuminated ” and several films by Robert Altman, died at the age of 75. The information comes from the actress’s partner.
Duvall died in his sleep at his home in Blanco, Texas, from diabetes. Duvall’s partner Dan Gilroy spoke about the incident to The Hollywood Reporter.
“My dear, sweet, amazing life partner and friend has left us,” Gilroy said. “She’s been through a lot recently, and now she’s free. Fly high, beautiful Shelley.”
Known for her expressive eyes and powerful performances on film, Duvall was a standout when she starred in Jack Nicholson the horror film “The Shining”. She also starred with Robin Williams in the comedy “Popeye “, like Olivia Oyl.
Movie fans also recognize her for her professional partnership with acclaimed filmmaker Robert Altman, who gave her the role in “The Birds Are Flying” in 1970. Duvall also appeared in other films of his, such as “Nashville “, from 1975, and “Three women “, from 1977. The second film won an award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival to Duvall.

In a 1977 Boca Raton News article, Altman praised the actress for being well-rounded and able to encompass many different looks as an actress: “Charming, silly, sophisticated, pathetic – and even pretty.”
Shelley Duvall’s other notable works include her performances in “Annie Hall” and “Where Men Are Men.”
In 2016, Duvall appeared on Dr. Phil’s show for an interview titled “A Hollywood Star’s Descent Into Mental Illness: Saving The Shining’s Shelley Duvall.” The actress made several troubling claims, including that Robin Williams, whom she starred with in “Popeye” and who died in 2014, was “still alive and a shapeshifter.”
“I’m very sick,” she said during the interview. “I need help.”
There was a backlash after the interview aired, with many people complaining that Duvall was exploited for the story.
Duvall, who hasn’t acted since 2002’s “Manna From Heaven,” gave an interview to the New York Times about his career and lack of recent film and TV work.
“I was a star, I had leading roles,” he said at the time. “People think it’s just aging, but it’s not. It’s violence.”
“How would you feel if people were super nice and then all of a sudden, in a second… they turn against you,” he continued. “You would never believe it unless it happened to you. That’s why you get hurt, because you really believe it’s true.”
At the time, she and Gilroy lived in a “secluded but serene” single-story home in the Texas Hill Country.
Over the years, Duvall has maintained a large fan base. She returned to the big screen in 2023 for the horror film “The Forest Hills.”
“I wanted to act again,” he said in an interview with The New York Times about the project. “And then this guy kept calling, and then I ended up doing it. If you make a horror movie, other horror movies will come to you no matter what you do.”
