She went on a family trip as a young woman and was eventually tricked into marrying her cousin

Nothing predicted the nightmarish turn the family would take journey for a young woman, because instead of going on vacation, she suddenly found herself at a party and engaged to cousin of her, who had to get married necessarily.

THE 23 year old Hamna Zafar from Pakistan lived in Maryland, USA and at the age of 19 traveled with her family back to their hometown because they were supposed to be on vacation. She just set foot in the country she went to an engagement party and found out it was secretly organized for her.

According to New York Postthe parents planned to marry her off to her cousin and make her a housewife, keeping their tradition alive.

“It was scary. I was planning to take exams to get my degree. My parents never fully assimilated into US culture, but I didn’t know they held such views. I was a good student and I wanted to spread my wings. Instead, they wanted me to be a housewife and make sure I didn’t talk to any manlet alone romantically”, he characteristically said.

The flight to liberation

THE Hamna Zafar’s family never returned to the USinstead stayed in Pakistan with their daughter and began planning the wedding despite her objections.

So, contacted a US Air Force officer online and the second arranged for the girl to leave the country, booking plane tickets and a hotel room. However, then the coronavirus broke out and almost everything was cancelled.

Fortunately, a friend she had known since childhood hosted her at home who lived with his wife and helped her get on her feet until he graduated and joined the Air Force.

Most, she lives alone in the US and has no contact with her family, because the latter feel betrayed and for a way of life they do not approve of. But Hamna Zafar disagrees and emphasizes that she wants to be free in her life even if the price is high.
