The OpenSea platform hosts the Q Shaman NFT “Life of Shamans” collection by Jacob Chensley, convicted of taking part in the storming of the Capitol.
Jacob Chansley from Phoenix, USA, called “Shaman QAnon”, was arrested in January 2021 as a member of the Capitol storm by supporters of former President Trump. By the verdict of the court, the “Viking shaman” was sentenced to three years and five months in prison for participating in the riot. The prosecution positioned the 32-year-old “QAnon shaman” as a symbol of the barbarian mob.
Today, December 17, 2021, Timmermann Media Group and an anonymous artist posted on the OpenSea platform the first part of the 300 NFTs of the officially authorized Q Shaman NFT Life of Shamans collection. On the eve of the 1st anniversary of the January 6 event, the project will invite NFT owners to an exclusive event.
It would seem that an ordinary event – the placement of a new OpenSea collection, among thousands of unclaimed old ones, caused an extraordinary reaction from part of the crypto community. Cointelegraph editor-in-chief Jon Rice expressed his negative attitude to the Life of Shamans collection most vividly:
“All over the world, loafers are becoming more and more popular. The guy who took part in the uprising released a mediocre collection hoping to cash in on his brief moment of fame. Most of these lazy and unimaginative illustrations were created “under exclusive license” and “anonymous artist”, which should cause concern among collectors around the world. But, if you need it – just remember that you are buying NFT to support the crazy right-wing conspiracy theorist and crazy Trump … ”
Until recently, controversial, from the point of view of common sense, cryptocurrency assets were either ignored or aroused condescension. However, this is not the first time that the NFT collection has been perceived as an instrument of political struggle.
Formally, John Rice touches on an important topic – the acquisition of digital art can be a means of financing illegal activities and illegal financial flows.
Earlier, writer Richard Hine expressed a similar opinion regarding NFT “Melania’s Vision” from former US First Lady Melania Trump.
