Seven of the top ten universities in Latin America are in Brazil; see list

Among the 10 best universities in Latin America, seven of them are in Brazil. So says the latest Times Higher Education ranking for the region, released this Thursday (14th).

Three of them are in São Paulo, one in Santa Catarina, one in Rio Grande do Sul, one in Minas Gerais and one in Rio de Janeiro.

The complete survey comprises 197 universities from 13 countries.

Overall, Chile has the best placement for the fourth consecutive year, yet Brazil has the best overall performance.

The ranking has Brazil leading with 72 Brazilian universities on the list, followed by Chile (30), Colombia (29) and Mexico (26).

This is the fourth year in a row that Chile has led the list with the Pontifical Catholic University. It is also the 6th time that USP is in second place.

For the evaluation, the Times Higher Education takes into account five questions. They are: teaching (36%), research (34%), citation impact (20%), international participation (7.5%) and industry revenue (2.5%).

With regard to education, Brazil also has the highest average score, with an index of 55.6, while Mexico is second with 43.5 and Chile in third with 35.9.
