Three weeks after three young people in Milan stretched a steel cable, putting the safety of motorists and motorcyclists at risk, another group of young people in Settimo Torinese had a dangerously similar idea. On the night between Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th January, some young people (as demonstrated by the amateur video of a resident of the area) held a thick plastic tape between two poles, at eye levelin via Leinì, in front of the roundabout that leads to the railway underpass.
In the video, a motorist is seen approaching and slowing down after realizing the obstacle. «There were no consequences because the first motorist who passed was quick to notice and remove the tape. However, this is a serious fact that could have had worse consequences”, reports the Municipality of Settimo Torinese. The kids, in the meantime, fled, but «the episode was documented and the images are already in the possession of the police, who have collected a complaint and they are proceeding to identify those responsible, in collaboration with the Municipality, by viewing the public video surveillance cameras”.
On the Facebook group of the Municipality of Settimo Torinese, a user reports another vandalism episode in the city: «Last night around 11.30 pm a small group of boys also passed by via Milano screaming. They threw a wooden platform into the middle of the road. Luckily she was immediately removed by other passers-by. We notified the police who assured us that they were sending a patrol.”
Citizens are scared, and demand that those responsible be punished severely: «Let's start punishing with exemplary punishments and make them public, so that they serve as a warning», writes another user. «And then we invite the children's parents to talk to them, take an interest in what they do, where they go, who they go out with, in my opinion something could improve».
