The leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman Al Zawahri appeared mysteriously in a new video marking the 20th anniversary of her attacks September 11 in the US, while for several months now rumors had been circulating about his death.
The SITE intelligence team that monitors jihadist websites said the video was released on Saturday 11/9/2021. In it, al-Zawahiri said “Jerusalem will never become Jewish,” and praised al-Qaeda’s attacks, including an attack on Russian troops in Syria in January.
The SITE website reported that al-Zawahiri also referred to the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan after 20 years of war, although the agreement to withdraw US troops from the Taliban was signed in February 2020.
Al-Zawahiri made no reference to the Taliban occupation of Afghanistan and the capital Kabul last month, SITE added. He did, however, refer to a January 1 attack targeting Russian troops on the outskirts of the northern Syrian city of Raqqa.
Rumors from the end of 2020 said that al-Zawahiri had died of an illness. Since then, no videos or proof of life had appeared until Saturday.
Al-Zawahiri’s speech was recorded on a 61-minute, 37-second video. Egyptian al-Zawahiri became al-Qa’eda leader after Osama bin Laden was assassinated in 2011 in Abbottabad, Pakistan by US Marines.
