Selena Gomez just reached another milestone in her career: she is the first woman to have 400 million followers on Instagram.
The singer hit the mark this Saturday (18), less than a month after having spent Kylie Jenner and become the most followed woman on the social network. Kylie, now in second place, has 382 million “virtual friends”.
To celebrate the record, which has already advanced to 401 million followers, Selena made a publication with several photos in which she appears surrounded by fans over the years. In the caption, she thanked her followers: “I wish I could hug each of these 400 million people”.
Quickly, the photo had more than 15 million likes and more than 160,000 comments such as “An entire country of followers”, and “The queen of Instagram”.
Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo remains the most followed person on Instagram with 563 million followers. the argentinian Lionel Messi is in 2nd place, slightly ahead of Selena, with 443 million followers.
Despite the growing number of fans, she is a constant target of comments from “haters” who criticize her weight and appearance and even gave a time of social networks in February this year.
It is public knowledge that the singer suffers from lupus, a chronic inflammatory condition that causes the body to attack its own healthy cells and tissues.
Gomez revealed that she had the disease in 2015. Two years later, she said that the condition led to a kidney transplant, donated by a friend, actress Francia Raisa.
Controversy with Hailey Bieber
A few weeks ago, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber were among the most commented subjects on social networks for exchanging alleged hints.
One of the reasons given by Internet users is that Hailey, who is the wife of singer Justin Bieber, is “obsessed” with the singer, her husband’s ex-girlfriend, since she was a teenager.
The controversy has impacted the image of both. While the model has lost nearly 500,000 followers since the situation began on February 22, the singer has gained around 7 million, according to CrowdTangle, Meta’s data monitoring website.
