The wreckage of the submersible Titan, which imploded in the Atlantic Ocean during the expedition to the Titanic, arrived in the port of Saint Johns, Canada, this Wednesday (28). The first photos of what’s left of the vessel have been revealed. (Look above).
The company Pelagic Research Services told the CNN that “successfully concluded” the operations to rescue the submarine Titan and “will be in the process of demobilizing the Horizon Arctic” this morning.
“They worked tirelessly for ten days, tackling the physical and mental challenges of this operation, and look forward to completing their mission and returning to their loved ones,” the company said in a statement.
Equipment covered in white tarp was seen being unloaded from the Horizon Arctic at the Coast Guard pier in Terra Nova, Canada, on Wednesday.
Horizon Arctic is the shipping company that owns the vessels, and Pelagic Research Services owns the remotely controlled vehicles, or ROVs, that brought the material to the surface.
A robot continues to comb the seabed for debris from the fatal implosion, as US and Canadian authorities turn their attention from search and rescue to investigating what led to the maritime disaster and whether any laws were broken.
Last Thursday (22), the US Coast Guard reported that it found the outer body of the vessel, which had been missing since Sunday (18).
