Pope Francis’ body was placed on the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday (23), after the open coffin was taken in solemn procession of the Santa Marta residence, passing different points, to the site.
The body will be exposed until Friday (25), allowing the faithful to pay honors.

Red -hat cardinals, priests, friars carrying candles and helmets slowly walked through the sun -illuminated terrace.
A male choir sang psalms and prayers in Latin, while the great bells of the Basilica Badalav.
The 88-year-old Pope died on Monday in his room at Santa Marta residence after a stroke.
Francisco, who spent five weeks hospitalized earlier this year, in treatment for double pneumonia, appeared in public for the last time on Easter Sunday (20), when he surprised the pilgrims when led by the square in the white popemobile and convertible.
The pontiff’s funeral is scheduled for next Saturday (26) and will bring together heads of state around the world, including US President Donald Trump, who has been conflicting with the Pope on social issues.
