Russian and US officials held secret talks in Ankara on Monday (14/11), Russian newspaper Kommersant reported, citing an unnamed img, amid heightened tension between Moscow and Washington over the war in Ukraine.
As reported by Reuters, A Turkish official declined to comment, while the Kremlin said it could neither confirm nor deny the report.
Flight tracking data showed that a Russian government aircraft arrived in Ankara from Moscow this morning.
Yoruk Isik, a geopolitical analyst at the Bosphorus Observer consultancy in Istanbul, said the aircraft is usually only used by the foreign minister Sergey Lavrovwho is currently attending a summit in Bali, and Sergei Naryskin, head of the SVR foreign intelligence service.
Kommersant did not provide details on the purpose of the talks.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Thursday that Moscow has so far shown no willingness to engage in productive talks.
